Birds!
Oct 11th
I like birds. In fact, I like them quite a lot. I like them because they’re funny and weird and even cute. I have spent many hours observing the birds on campus and can identify each of the common species by name.
However, I DO NOT LIKE BIRDS IN GARBAGE CANS.
I shouldn’t have to be terrified of throwing away my trash. I shouldn’t have to contemplate whether or not I should even approach the garbage can. I shouldn’t have to worry about having my eyes plucked out by overfed pidgeons!
I have to wonder at what point this sort of thing became acceptable. Birds are cool and all, but it’s really not a good idea to allow them free access to the wonderland that is the garbage can.
They didn’t attack me, nor did they attack anyone else who went to throw something away. Birds on campus are pretty tame. Even so, it’s very unsettling to have an entire flock of pidgeons inside a garbage can just feet away from you. Especially pidgeons that are very aggressive and clearly protective of their beloved food source.
